Blue-green seas, dramatic rock formations, open skies, and sandy beaches. San Jose del Cabo, Baja California, Mexico was the ideal setting for this spa-inspired luxury second home — and the natural starting point for everything Hyde Evans Design brought to it.
Working in partnership with local architect Arturo Ponce De Leon, we worked on every detail of the kitchen and baths sourcing local stone and custom wood cabinets when possible. To add pops of color, our studio traveled to Oaxaca to meet directly with weavers for handcrafted local textiles, and collaborated with furniture artisans from Jalisco on custom pieces, including the grand dining table anchoring the space between kitchen and living areas.
The spacious residence includes a primary suite with private terrace and plunge pool, four guest suites each with its own color story drawn from the Oaxacan weavings, a great room that opens fully to the veranda and lap pool through sliding glass walls, and multiple bars for effortless entertaining. One guest suite features two sets of built-in king-size bunk beds divided by a down-lit staircase — a piece of interior architecture that earns its own conversation.
Andrew Neyer Pennant Lights hang over the kitchen island from a custom soffit; a Hex Light Fixture by John Beck Steel punctuates the dining room. Stone walls texture the shower surrounds; solid limestone carves the powder room and primary bath sinks. Honed limestone flooring moves without transition from indoors to outdoors. A stone trough fire pit imported from France anchors a sunken pool bar seating area. Every element of this Baja California luxury interior design project connects the home to its coastal Mexican surroundings — and connects its Pacific Northwest owners to the place they love.
