While this Cape Cod beach home is fairly new, the homeowner disliked the overall layout of the open kitchen and dining room. We began by flipping the location of the rooms; putting the kitchen where the dining room was originally located. A counter, which includes custom cabinetry, stacked refrigerator drawers and seating, provides definition between the spaces without interrupting the visual flow. At the far end of the kitchen is another bank of cabinetry which includes glass-fronted cabinets for display, an appliance garage and a wine cooler. A contrasting glass backsplash and mahogany countertop give this portion a slightly different, yet complementary, aesthetic which lends itself to entertaining. We also replaced the fireplace mantle and surround in the living room so that it's now more in keeping with the home's overall architecture.
