Choptank Waterfront, Cambridge
The house emphasizes horizontal continuity in exterior details and in the interior flow of spaces. The view of the water preferred by the owners, up the river as opposed to across its broad expanse, distinguishes almost every main room in the house, and is particularly striking at the entry, looking through the house. Transoms on the waterfront side brighten the view, allowing in more light and creating a more transparent wall. Inside, bold classical arches and columns replace doorways, opening the interior space, while coffered ceilings and detailed moldings keep the rooms defined and intimate. Outdoor spaces, particularly a screened porch and breezeway, are often where the owners find themselves, drawn to the magnificent and ever-changing wildlife and scenery surrounding their idyllic home.
