Classical White and Walnut Kitchen
A classic, light filled white and walnut kitchen renovation in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
The original space was poorly laid out with a peninsula that chopped the room in half. At the top of the owners' wish list was opening up the room, a large island with farmhouse sink, a commercial sized range and an eat in table and banquette. We selected a faux slate porcelain tile floor for contrast with all the white cabinetry, while its durability is a plus for the family of five plus fluffy Golden Retriever. It has radiant heating for chilly Cleveland mornings. The walnut island is the heart of the kitchen. Our carpenter lavished it with extra attention by applying a gray wash in the graining. Gray and white veined granite tops the cabinetry. The owner's love of blue was carried throughout in the island counter stools with silver leaf accents, the seating at the table and Chinese export pottery. A custom curved banquette with v groove details comfortably seats the whole gang for family dinners. At the far end of the kitchen, we added three large lockers in the same the shaker style inset cabinets for the boys' backpacks and sports equipment.
