Contemporary Backyard Resort
This project began as a renovation to an existing landscape. We started out with a demolition of everything on site and reclaimed some things that we could reuse such as the colorful outcroppings that we used for the new water feature. The purpose of the project was for their children to be able to have friends over and swim while being in a safe environment. The parents also enjoy entertaining and so the space needed to be conducive for adults as well as children.
One of the unique designs is the custom-built wood pavilion- style structure with a metal roof. A special feature was using reclaimed wood from a 200-year-old survivor barn. The cedar beams had been saved from a massive fire in Peshtigo, WI where the whole city had burned down. All of the wood used was milled from the survivor beams so it has a historical value and story that is unique to this project. The swing was custom designed and built by a retired local furniture maker, and we used a special manufactured paver that was UV protected and pre-sealed. We also added outdoor LED lighting, which really created a beautiful ambience at night.
