The looming wall adjacent to the site belongs to a neighbor who would not allow it to be painted, so all "painting" is done at night with lights, projecting dramatic shadows onto the wall and breaking up the flat space. Artificial turf between slabs allows water to drain quickly while avoiding a too-stark appearance.
