Cramped and traditional gives way to open, bold and contemporary.

The dominant feature of the existing kitchen here was the peninsula. While it provided seating at the kitchen, it confined the appliances and made for a very tight working space. Note the original relationship of the sink and dishwasher, which made loading from the sink very difficult. Since the dining table is open to the kitchen, the peninsula could be eliminated while still having in-kitchen seating. Removing the peninsula allowed us to open the kitchen, making it feel much larger, and greatly improving the efficiency and flow.

A timeless shaker door style in on-trend grey and white serves as the perfect background for the dark granite and bold backsplash. Lighting above, below, and in-cabinet does a great job highlighting the backsplash and the homeowners collectibles.

Note that the island is multi-purpose and is on wheels to allow for easy mobility.
