Covered Bridge Bathroom
These clients came to us with a desire to transform their dated, cold master bath into a contemporary, spa-like haven that better suited their lifestyle.
The bathroom had several issues that needed to be addressed. The large built-in tub was an albatross in the room. They wanted to remove it in lieu of a larger shower, stylish storage and a seated make-up area. If the budget would allow, they would add a steam unit to the large shower for stress relief, relaxation and better health. With some careful planning, it did.
The tub was removed opening up the room for a pretty make-up area under the window taking advantage of the natural light. Flanking the vanity are large armoires for added storage and display space for the couple’s extensive pottery collection.
Due to the fact that the bathroom is situated over the garage space, it was quite chilly in the winter and hot in the summer. One of the biggest challenges was insulating the crawl spaces, floor and walls surrounding the bathroom. With the addition of radiant floor heating and AC supply, the space is now comfortable year round.
The couple is middle aged, so we carefully made some suggestions with aging in place in mind. The idea of a curbless shower with a bench appealed to them. This would give a modern feel with added the added benefit of being a roll-in shower with seating, if ever needed. The floating vanities were a challenge to install, but the wow factor paid off. Unexpected, easy to reach, pull out cabinets in the vanity house lots of toiletries. Recessed, mirrored medicine cabinets boast outlets and lots of storage. The sleek sconces feature night lights that glow blue in color. The difficult to reach window shade is operated by a remote control, a favorite feature of the clients.
