Cross-Pollination

Cross-Pollination was a winning entry for the 2018 Public Space Invitational: Community Gardens and Green Spaces from the Office of Urban Mechanics, City of Boston. Our team included Thrive Design, Studioful and local artist Azia Carle.

The team collaborated with the gardeners to create an installation that brought more activity to Nightingale Community Garden and meet some of the practical needs of the garden such as shade for gardeners and habitat for pollinators.

Through a series of hands-on workshops, participants planted ‘Pollinator Pots’ with vibrantly-colored native plants to host beneficial insects and stitched large, fabric ‘Shade Flowers’ to bring shade to gardeners. The ‘Shade Flowers’ were pollinated through poetry written by local poets and gardeners.
