Thrive Design

Urban Refuge

Thrive Design worked with this client to create a landscape master plan for a newly-acquired property, then provided project management for its installation and planting. The property had been blanketed with knotweed, mile-a-minute weed, Palonia, Porcelain Berry, and other invasive exotic plants. Thrive Design coordinated the extensive removal of the invasive plants, oversaw stream bank restoration/stabilization, and managed the installation of a retaining wall with fireplace seating, steps made of recycled granite curbing, and a bridge constructed from locally-harvested black locust. Today, an ornamental meadow displays colorful blooms through the seasons and hosts an abundance of birds, fireflies, bees, and butterflies. More than 200 newly-installed trees help stabilize slopes and buffer the stream while providing privacy and backdrop to other plantings. Paths now wander through a meadow, woodland, and orchard.
