Custom Scupltures

Crane in it’s vigilance stands outside the Kirkland Washington police station and courthouse. We made the large concrete orb that the crane is holding. The legend goes, there is always a crane that stands watch for the flock at night. The watch crane holds a rock. If the crane falls asleep, the rock falls and wakes up the crane. This concrete orb is made of glass fiber reinforced concrete and is hollow. The pieces that affix the concrete orb to the sculpture were made by the artist and embedded in the orb when we cast it. Had this orb been made with conventional concrete methods, it would weigh in excess of 500lbs and be too heavy. Glass and stainless steel chosen by the artist (Matt Babcock) are in the face coat (the part you see) and we exposed the glass and stainless steel by wet grinding.
