Deco Wash by BRI

Brick Restoration Inc's signature Deco Wash service. The three styles that we use to enhance the look of masonry are Lime Wash, German Smear, and Slurry.

These terms have become popular in recent years as many homeowners search for a way to modernize the look of their homes without a complete remodel. Because of their durability and strength, all three Deco Wash styles are healthy alternatives to pain. They can be applied to brick or stone, on a home's exterior or interior masonry features.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Lime Wash is a mixture of lime, water and natural oxide pigments resulting in a paint like product. The thinner the paint, the more the brick color will show through. Lime washing is the lightest coasting of the three and can be done in two ways: An over-all coat of lime compound over the brick and mortar. And tactfully coasting areas with thin and thick paint, then scrubbing or washing away the wet paint in some areas.
- German Smear: A type of mortar wash, German smear is achieved by tactfully smearing a mixture of mortar and sand on to the brick, leaving some of it exposed. Typically this process is done with white mortar. You can also achieve a variety of looks with German smear, depending on how it’s applied and the thickness of the coats. With this decorative wash you can expect a more “textured” look with some thinner and thicker spots.
