Don't Quit Whining

Turning a builder-basic basement rec room into a place for grown-up social engagements took a great team of builder, woodworker, and electrician...and a little help from a lighting designer. Calling attention to the warm woods and fine details of the completely remodeled space, light comes from surprising places and helps keep the party going long into the night.

Glowing Wine Cellar

I crafted careful mockups of wine racks to make sure the bottles looked the best- and that labels were always readable. Climate control and dimmers that turn the lights down low help limit light exposure on the wine itself.

Wine Cellar

The projector and screen are the main clues that this space is capable of high-definition viewing. When the system is off, the space can be used for social gatherings that spill out to the pool and patio through nearby sliding glass doors. Lighting in layers helps the space function equally well...

Home Theater

Too many times I have seen light above crown molding, calling attention to drywall- the cheapest surface in the entire room. Adding a secondary molding below allowed me to illuminate the cherry multi-piece crown itself, and provide just the right glow on the ceiling, too.

Detailed Craftsmanship

A prime example of a multi-layered approach to lighting design, the wine bar adjacent to the new cellar features light under the bar top, inside the cabinets, built into the crown, pendants, recessed lights, and more. Put together, the space is truly illuminated.
