This renovation combined two apartments into a gracious, functional duplex. The new plan for the lower level is an open, loft-like living space combining a kitchen, living room and dining room. A family room that also serves as a guest bedroom is separated by two large pocket doors.

The upper level has three bedrooms including a large primary bedroom suite. A new, minimalist steel stair connects the two levels. The stair is comprised of folded steel with simple wood treads and a delicate steel handrail. A conscious decision was made to limit the palette of materials so that the unique beauty of each material stands out and provides the client with a sumptuous, yet visually understandable interior space.
