Effingham Manor is a charming, historic property with a unique story and stunning beauty. Nestled amid the country side of Virginia’s Prince William County, this once 42 square mile estate includes a 250 year old manor house, a multi-tiered English garden, old slave quarters, a blacksmith shop, smokehouse, a brick patio and the state’s oldest swimming pool, which was recently converted into a Koi pond. Effingham Manor was built in 1767 for William Alexander, grandson of John Alexander for whom the city of Alexandria was named.
Craftsman Construction was tasked with designing and building a production facility and event room. After several meetings with the owner Craftsman Construction came up with a design to suit all the client’s needs. The custom building includes a production facility to house all the wine making equipment as well as a storage area to store the finished product. Also included in the design is a 4,000 S.F. event center. This room will be used to hold special events, weddings, corporate meetings, etc.

Some of the more notable features of this building are in its Energy Efficient design. The building includes Geo-Thermal heating and cooling with hydronic floor heat. Other features include on demand hot water, LED lighting, Spray Foam insulation, Energy Star windows and doors.
The building was designed to mimic the existing manor house and other structures on the property. The front of the building has large columns and a front porch. The stone on the building was custom made to match the existing blacksmith shop at the entrance to the site. The roof was done in standing seam metal that was used on the manor house. The siding is a lap siding installed to look like the existing siding. Every effort was made to be sensitive to this historic site.
