Texture and relief work in tandem to make this stately dining room sing. After inheriting a suite of furniture, including: matching table, chairs, buffet, and china cabinet, my clients wanted to make the memory-laden gifts work in their century home.
Rather than force all the components into the same space, we broke them up for best-possible visual and spacial flow.
A lovely contrast to the wood-rich environment, custom host and hostess chairs complement the freshly-covered silk striped fabric that now graces the original seating. Lost to a sea of dull antique-white paint, old-world details were revealed majestic in the handsome original millwork, after several loving coats of brightest white were applied.
The true star of the space – the tray ceiling, draws the eye immediately toward the damask wall covering elegantly soaring overhead. Wool mohair, in an authoritative jewel blue, adds a new and inviting pop to the built-in seat grounding the grand bank of windows ushering in perfect natural light over the tableau.
