Elegant Empty Nesters

This project was a whole house new build. These were repeat clients so I knew their needs and lifestyle well and felt confident about how to help them proceed. They had a traditional taste but still wanted a fresh feel for the house. Aging-in-place was also factored in as they imagined this to be their last home.

The owners craved an orderly home so we achieved that with a symmetrical layout. The closed built in houses a hook up for a television should they ever want one. The room is meant to be flexible for entertaining with elements like the ottomans on either side of the coffee table and small...

We used a mix of treasures the owner's already had and new to decorate the bookshelves. The cactus has been in the family for years! The play of patterns on the pillows and curtains keeps the space happy and light.

We created a family tree and unified the different sizes by using all the same frames and mats.

This is a sitting area off of the kitchen and dining rooms. We reupholstered a few treasured pieces of furniture.

The white plush rug was added to keep the traditional style of the space feeling fresh. Roller shades concealed by traditional valences is another trick to blending the old with the new.

The custom locally made cherry dining table expands to seat up to 18 people!

A wine rack was used to hold the owner's collection of antique rolling pins. This bar area is just off the corner in the dining room so a guest can help themself to a refreshment!

The bed in the Master Bedroom is flanked by two similar sized but not itentical antique dressers we found and had them both painted and glazed for a pop of color.

The mirror is from the owners parents and does a great job of reflecting the gorgeous silk drapes (and the gorgeous view that's not pictured).

The reading chair by the window is a great place for my clients to sit and watch the birds in the forest behind them, or a convenient place for a late night iPad viewing while not disturbing their partner.
