Emerald Street Residence
Restoration of a single family residence originally designed by New Orleans modernists Curtis and Davis in 1952, and featured in Architectural Record in 1955.
Complete rebuilding of the residence after decades of neglect, a damaging 1990s renovation, and massive water damage from Katrina. The rehabilitation restores key original design features such as the deep overhang over the south façade while also fulfilling Curtis & Davis’ original planned intent for a master suite at the SW corner. The residence includes 2 bed-rooms, two bathrooms, an office, and an open living/dining room + kitchen. The main rooms connect to outdoor patios via a wall of sliding glass panels. Wing-walls supporting the overhang divide the patios into public & private zones, encouraging more use of outdoor spaces. New landscaping, including a pool and garden, enforce indoor/outdoor lifestyle encouraged by the unique design.
