Entertainment District Condo, Kitchen & Bath Renovation

This downtown Toronto condo renovation took place in a building built in 1991. The renovation involved both the Kitchen, Bathroom, wall changes to create open concept and the addition of lighting that was very limited due to the concrete slab ceilings. Additionally, a Lutron home automation system was added for maximum control of lighting and condo functions. Both Kitchen and Bathroom were gutted to the base building walls. Electrical and ducting was re-routed in order to achieve an open concept. Because the existing ceilings were concrete slab, we had to build a false ceiling in the kitchen, dining, living, sunroom, master bedroom and Ensuite bathroom. Framing down the ceiling allowed for pot lighting and wiring throughout. In the bathroom, the built-in tub was removed and replaced with a standalone soaker tub. The shower and vanity locations did not change. With the removal of the built- in tub, new space was realized, and it allowed for additional storage. All walls and floors were cladded in 12x24 marble stone. The vanity was custom with Quartz countertops including integrated sinks. Additional details included frameless shower glass, heated towel warmer and heated floors. In the kitchen, custom cabinetry covered all the walls and hid a very tight but functional kitchen including condo sized washer and dryer. With opening of the walls, we utilized a wall in the hallway for a built- in pantry. Special features included custom storage accessories, LED undercabinet lighting, Quartz countertops, porcelain floor tiles and a new bright open concept view to the condo space great for entertaining and everyday modern life.
There were 2 main issues in this condo that were prevalent – lighting and functional kitchen space. By dropping the ceiling approximately 3 inches, we were able to do 2 things – get rid of the stucco ceilings and add even lighting and options through out the condo. The other issue resolved was by getting rid of the walls that surrounded the kitchen space making it hard to have a functional well-rounded kitchen. The original washer and dryer were behind the kitchen, so taking back that space and incorporating the washer and dryer into the cabinetry helped in function and adding storage.
