This used to be a dated, free form amoeba boulder pool, with limited areas to sit in the yard, and lots of poorly placed planter areas to trip over. The design to modernize but retain the free spirit of the flowing shape came to fruition by utilizing colorful, serpentine walls that wove through the space, enveloping each sitting area. Trading cumbersome step stones for an avenue of turf gave the space two enhancements. First, the esthetic of a rich lawn played nicely against the mirror of the pool, and the second was the functionality of a surface that was both walkable and a place to lounge, without the need for extraneous hardscape.
