My client was in the finishing stage of renovating his home and he did not know what directionhe wanted to go with the decor in the basement. To warm the basement up and to make the stone pop, we painted the walls a deep clay red. It matched other partss of the house but looked so different. I talked him into painting the doors the molding on the far walls that color but leaving the tv wall white. I wanted fluidity of color, not a lot of cut outs in the red. This helps to direct your eye to the stone, which is amazing. We used carpet tile and added a bar and games table. It is a warm, comfortable, and interesting space with personality.
