Fossil Lane Project- Kitchen, Wine Library & Baths
Our team totally re-designed and re-constructed this San Antonio home to reflect the young and vibrant lifestyle of the family who lives there. We began by reconfiguring the kitchen, wine library, living room and dining room spaces. Non-structural headers that separated the rooms were removed to allow for the spaces to flow more freely from one room to the next. Doorways between the kitchen and wine library and the wine library and the dining room were substantially expanded to allow for the eye to travel through all three spaces, creating one cohesive living space. Next, we reconfigured the awkward kitchen layout to incorporate the seating area into the island. Before, the separate breakfast area felt cramped and too small. After redesigning the space, the connected banquette seating at the kitchen island allows for open space to flow more freely around the breakfast table. Before the redesign, a tall bar-height island visually separated the kitchen from the living area. The new lower counter height island visually opens and expands the space and makes it appear much larger. Next, our team designed custom kitchen cabinetry and worked to make the space both beautiful and functional for the busy family. Monogram appliances are incorporated into the space effortlessly, with a paneled refrigerator and freezer, and a paneled dishwasher and an additional dishwasher drawer for those extra few dirty dishes. A custom designed range hood is the star of the show with brass strapping details displayed over the striking range top, while a geometric patterned tile backsplash adds a modern touch. The gold hardware and pendant lighting are showcased beautifully against the rich cabinet color.
Next, our team tackled defining the adjoining space between the kitchen and the formal dining room. We had lots of ideas on how to use this unusual space, but ultimately decided to make it into a wine library. The homeowners have a special affinity for collecting wine and they also truly enjoy reading, so we felt that this would be the perfect marriage for this space. We began by designing custom cabinetry for the 11' tall ceilings that incorporated bookshelves, a tall wine column that houses over 150 bottles of wine, and additional enclosed storage for the family's barware, school supplies and even small kitchen appliances. This wine library has become a favorite hangout spot for the homeowners to enjoy a glass of wine or to unwind with a good book.
Then, we turned our attention to updating the bathrooms. For the primary bath, we demoed the former sage green color scheme and freshened up the space by designing new custom soft blue cabinets and an expansive vanity mirror with wall sconces mounted in the mirror for an added touch of sophistication. The "X" design on the vanity sink cabinets gives a modern look, while an inset tile rug adds pattern. The freestanding tub and gold pendant lighting complete this serene spa bathroom.
For the girl's bath, we selected a delicate tile pattern for the floor, a furniture vanity, and an arched mirror with feminine detailing. The shower features clean white subway tile for a timeless look. Gold plumbing fixtures complete the space and tie it in with the rest of the home.
Finally, we selected furniture, rugs, art and accessories that create a relaxed but cosmopolitan atmosphere for this modern home. Both comfort and durability were kept in mind when selecting all materials and finishes, while the color blue is incorporated throughout to seamlessly tie all of the spaces together. This modern and vibrant home is sure to provide many years of joy for this young and growing family.
