Franklin Residence
New modern house in Franklin, Michigan. The 4,700 SF house sits on a 1.16 acre sloping lot with large trees.
The design concept came from a series of intersecting volumes each containing specific programs. The two-story volume holds the main living areas with children’s bedrooms above. The master bedroom, den, laundry and garage each have their own volume.
Materials used on the project are a black tone brick with iron spots, black metal windows and panels, and thermally modified ash wood for a rainscreen adding warmth to the palate of materials.
The entry has a covered walkway that is flanked by timber beams to create a pergola that projects shadows to the surrounding surfaces throughout the day.
