With insurance claim in hand, the homeowners of this spacious masterbath began explaining their wish to just repair the leaky shower tiles that had allowed water to cascade into their kitchen downstairs. Like so many other homeowners in their position, they hadn't planned on renovating their masterbath, and were thinking to just repair and update the affected areas, namely the Tub and Shower.
As is the challenge with all of these projects; Where to draw the line between old and new? They wanted to enlarge the shower, but this change impacts the flooring. New flooring sounds like an easy to add component, but the flooring goes under the vanity and toilet. We could remove and re-install the existing, builder-grade vanity, but if your paying the labor to do so, maybe we should consider putting in something new and of better quality? On top of all these considerations we have material choices and color selections and trying to balance the old and new will present other challenges all of their own.
After almost a full year of thought, consideration, some frustration and some elation, the homeowners of this now brand new MasterBath are extremely happy they decided to go with the full remodel. It was more than they expected in terms of cost and it was more than they expected in terms of choices, finishes, and decisions. But is also now so, so much more than they expected in terms of enjoyment and satisfaction!
