Galley Gathering | Hillsboro Kitchen

After reconfiguring the entrance into the galley kitchen, the streamlined space now features a neutral gray palette and storage from floor to ceiling. By relocating the refrigerator, there is now a wall of built-in pantry cabinets which also house the microwave and espresso machine. A goal of the remodel was to incorporate a spot for someone to pull up a chair and enjoy a drink so we added a small peninsula between the kitchen and dining area. The homeowners have created a phased plan to modernize their home over the years. We completed their master bathroom remodel in 2014, and they invited us back to continue to bring their vision to life.

A large fridge stuck out into the kitchen. We moved the doorway and fridge location for better flow in the space.

Before, the kitchen was not fully utilized. There were several areas that could be better used for storage. The small door opening into the dining area was tight, and the outdated linoleum floors had to go.

Now, the fridge is surrounded with pantry cabinets, built-in microwave and a place for the homeowner's beloved espresso machine.

A wider doorway allows for a better flow from the kitchen to dining area. The homeowners wanted an area for someone to pull up a seat and enjoy a beverage, so a quartz peninsula was added.

The small doorway separating the kitchen from the living room made the space feel compartmentalized.

The dining area now feels more connected to the kitchen. New lighting adds to the ambiance of the space.

Custom, Alder Shaker cabinets in dark grey stain warm up the space. Extended cabinets and Quartz countertops now fully utilize space. We added a new, smaller window to allow for cabinetry below, and a glass display cabinet shows off glasswear for the bar area.
