Georgian Townhouse
Architectural interior design within listed period buildings is a speciality of Oliver Burns. In re-designing this super-prime central London property, we worked closely with English Heritage to retain the remaining original architectural features at this prestigious address. Elsewhere, we reinstated period details, such as the grand doors, fireplaces, intricate cornices and delicate gilding typical of the Georgian period.
To remain true to the building’s quintessential Britishness, yet update this 18th century jewel to meet the requirements of 21st century luxury living, bespoke joinery was commissioned to conceal all the high-spec mod cons that were indispensible to this Middle-Eastern client.
Characterised by high ceilings and intricate period features, a beautifully proportioned entrance hall paved with Carrara marble sets the tone of this elegant property with its statement Art Nouveau Lalique console table juxtaposed with antique mirrors. Throughout, blacks, beiges and golds form the background palette against which a work of art – the vibrant colours of a Miró, are brought into dramatic relief.
Especial attention has been paid to the award-winning bathrooms, from hand-sourced book-matched marbles, to basins with a quilted texture reminiscent of Chanel. The result is a superbly opulent residence, which marries sensitivity to the traditional values of our English heritage.
