Great Camp Boathouse

It’s a regulatory challenge to design and construct a boathouse on Lake Placid and comply with the APA (Adirondack Protection Agency), DEC, Corps of Engineers and the North Elba Lake Overlay Planning Commission, with their many restrictions, but it is possible.

This Great Camp Boathouse is a five-slip structure designed to store rare classic wooden powerboats. It is used by the entire family as a retreat from their hectic urban lives, and allows them to enjoy the peaceful Adirondacks.

The Boathouse interior is adorned in the Adirondack Classic Douglas Fir edge and center bead with Mahogany decks and ceiling. The entire structure is steel and exposed to reveal its strength and durability against the harsh winters and marine environment. The exterior is clad in Western Red Cedar shingles hand dipped in stain and applied with a 5-inch reveal to protect the structure from the elements. The docks and upper deck are all Mahogany and left unfinished to weather gray in their natural state. All of the Hand Rails are Alaskan white cedar, which is considered one of the most durable softwoods found. The upper canopy is designed with an outdoor field stone fireplace and lighting that dims to allow star gazing.
