Falling in love with the natural woodland setting, the homeowners set about to build their dream family home. The existing woodland held many dead and decaying trees and a poorly drained topography that created a swamp-like wet area emerging in the middle of the property.
Within these constraints a formal entrance, winding driveway, and formal parking court structured with brick walls had to be incorporated. Also having to be rectified was the swampy low-lying wetland.
Per the homeowner’s needs, the property’s elements and the designer’s vision, we sought to create a formal entrance to the estate with columns to accentuate the home’s magnificent architecture. We selectively removed dead trees, working diligently to maintain the integrity of the woodland backdrop. We then installed an asphalt driveway that winds through the wooded property to highlight the natural vistas of the setting, ending at a formal parking court. The parking court and port-cochere are bordered by brick walls in order to tie in with the existing style of the home’s exterior.
The plants and flowers were selected to respect the client’s desired color scheme. The result comes as two juxtapositions: the vibrant colors of the flowers contrast the natural hues of the surrounding woods, while the serenity of the pond becomes a playful and lively setting for entertaining.
