Grosse Pointe Gut (Transitional Design)

This house is nestled in the suburbs of Detroit. It is a 1950s two story brick colonial that was in major need of some updates. We kept all of the existing architectural features of this home including cove ceilings, wood floors moldings. I didn't want to take away the style of the home, I just wanted to update it. When I started, the floors were stained almost red, every room had a different color on the walls, and the kitchen and bathrooms hadn't been touched in decades. It was all out of date and not in style.

I completely gut the kitchen, powder room and master bath. Painted everything a really light grey from Sherwin Williams, and refinished the floors in a water based finish to their natural oak color.

Kitchen: I took out only a half of a wall to open the walk way between the kitchen and the dining room, and in place of a dark shabby pantry I put the Miele Refrigerator/Freezer, double ovens tower and a pantry cabinet with chrome baskets. The cabinets are from Scavolini, they are a matte black tempered glass. Super durable and the easiest material to clean, I love them in the kitchen. I used the 'bi-fold' door on the uppers along the sink wall for a clean look and plenty of storage. The space above the uppers remains open making my traditional 8 foot ceilings appear taller. The counter top is a honed black granite, and the back splash is tile from Ann Sacks.

Master Bath: I replaced the a Pepto Bismal pink backroom that is on suite to the bedroom. The tiles I used are from Hastings in light grey (porcelain), with texture for warmth but also so it's not slippery. The cabinetry, sink, top and mirror are all from Scavolini. The sink base is a humous oak melamine door that is non-porous and basically indestructible, perfect for a humid/wet environment like a bathroom. The counter top and sink are a matte white mineral solid made from marble. The faucet is from Graff, wall mounted, in a chrome finish.

Powder Room: This room was also a complete gut renovation. I used the same hexagon textured tiles from the foyer (not shown) in light gray. The paint on the wall is almost black, from Sherwin Williams. Sink base is from Scavolini in a light grey glossy lacquer with perfectly matching tempered glass counter top that has an integrated sink. Toto toilet in bright white. Graff wall mount chrome faucet.
