This project began as a mystery about what existed behind the walls of this last 1800s home. With the belief that there was an original stone hearth (there were signs of it but nothing salvageable), we used that as our inspiration to create what the clients would have liked to find. A large scale stone surround with hand hewn beam is the focal point for the range with an antique crackle-glazed subway tile backsplash. Our clients main focus was to keep their eat in kitchen but instead of using that space for a table we maximized layout and storage by giving them seating in their island.
