Home on the Harbor
We transformed this master bath suite into a tranquil, coastal spa. The color palette began with painted lace cabinetry. Complementary millwork was added, including a wood tongue and groove ceiling, soft aqua on the walls and a washed wood floor combine to create this relaxing space.
It all started when the homeowners contacted the original bath designer to incorporate the Kohler Digital TV steam shower into their double walk-in open shower design. The original master bath, circa 2009, was beautiful as the designer helped the original homeowner with its creation. Several years later, the new homeowners wanted to soften & personalize the space.
This master bath was transformed into a tranquil coastal spa. The cabinetry is Brookhaven’s painted lace; with the wood millwork enclosure around the shower & tub, door & window casing and all interior doors painted to match the Lace cabinetry.
There was not a full-length mirror in the master suite so carpenters built a frame into the wall that matched all the existing millwork and a mirror was added. The white washed wood floors and painted lace tongue & groove ceiling was added. All the plumbing products selected are by Kohler.
We realized we needed to totally re do the shower & tub configuration to fit the owner’s desire of adding the Kohler DTV steam shower system. The shower space needed to be enlarged so the owners could sit or lay down. The existing built in tub took up a lot of floor space; they preferred a freestanding bathtub with hydro & light therapy and to be able to view TV while bathing. One thing led to another. The marble and Onyx stone in the bath was a work of art, but we couldn't find additional pieces to match, it was a busy color palette and it made the bath an echo chamber. The owners requested we redesign the bath with brand new material selections, make it fit the new shower functions, and soften sight & sound into a tranquil, chill space for them.
To soften this large room’s acoustics, wood replaced stone on the shower & tub and on the floor. Visually softening this space, tongue & groove was added to the 10 foot high ceilings. Ceramic tile was inlayed to conceal new floor drains at the shower entry & tub base so that water wouldn't be an issue on the wood floors.
