The design for this residence has been influenced by a number of factors, most important among them being the owners and their aspirations, recognition of the character (architectural, geological, and historical) of the New England coastal surroundings, and the particular qualities of the Gap Head site itself such as views and orientations.

The house strives to be a modern house spatially and in its detailing (both interior and exterior) while maintaining a recognizable affinity with the vernacular architecture of its surroundings. The traditional character of the house serves as a familiar background for the very different specifics of modern life.
