This new custom residence is located in the Houston Heights Historic District, whereby all design work must be submitted and approved by the City Planning Department. Historic guidelines state that new residential construction must use roof forms, exterior materials, and front elevations that are compatible with the existing 1920’s housing stock. The design goal was to create a modern home, with a clear reading of the present time, that is respectful of and inspired by the neighborhood’s bungalow craft tradition.
