Kitchen Addition
When approaching this house the first and foremost impression is in the scale of the stone work of the home. The homeowners desired an updated kitchen and some additional family room space, as well as, some recreational space, which could not be accommodated in the existing home. Their wish was to create an addition that would be a compliment to the home in both its exterior elements and the hard scape surrounding the addition. The overwhelming presence of natural stone motivated this homeowner to accent the addition to echo and replicate that element, but not construct the entire addition in stone. The addition of retaining walls and stairs integrate the mix of materials, as well as, creating an inviting second entry to this home. Adding the aged copper gives the structure a timeless appearance, as does the simulated divided lite windows. Also, the raised fireplace adds a casual, yet comfortable compliment to the formal kitchen.
