Kitchen Before & After

My client knew exactly what she wanted for her kitchen from the time she and her husband first purchased their house. She had been dreaming about it, and picturing it! She described a country kitchen with authentic antique wood floors, many colors and patterns, beams on the ceiling and comfy chairs to sit and watch TV. She said she loved blue, green, yellow, gold, copper, and other metals, and wasn't affraid to mix them. Since this was our fourth project together, we knewone another's tastes, were trusting, and knew how each other worked.
We dove in! Wer much located, after much trial and error, a great resource for wide planked wood flooring. We ripped out the typical oak floors and replaced them with pine, stained in the color of our choice. I designed the placement of the ceiling beams after much discussion between client, contractor and myself. Satin color was also specified. Keeping the cabinetry as is was my nemesis. My wonderful painter created a faux finish to apply just the distressed, old look we were after. The original stainless hood above the cooktop also had to go. I designed and had built a new one, as well as a window seat. Next, my upholsterer created the cushion. Two chairs with ottomans, roosters galore, fabrics in many Provincial patterns, window treatments with roosters and checks, shutters, a weathered cabinet I slepped back in my wagon from the Hamptons, and we were nearly done.
We added pendant lights where none existed, and had my superbly talented artist lady create a painting of a rooster I framed in a chunky, heavy, antiqued looking frame. Baskets, chotchkies, done!!!
