Our design solution was to provide the family with a kitchen that would promote family time,lighten the space, and also creating a kitchen to grow with the family. The kitchen is located in the center of the home and is in a high traffic area. Our plan was to expand the upper cabinets for storage, open up the window views, and provide lighter, more reflective finishes and contrast with warmer finishes that are easy to take care of on a daily basis. The details in the tile added a softening to the space and multiple lighting fixtures provided task and ambient lighting. The new open plan that was developed encompasses a nearby sitting room and the brighter space allows for varied levels of use for the family and for entertaining. There is ample space to maneuver around heavy traffic, and areas were created for sitting and standing at tasks depending upon height and agility. Minimal upper cabinets were created and larger drawers are used for daily accessibility. The kitchen will now accommodate their needs for the present and the future.
