Kitchen Remodel

This project is a remodel of an existing kitchen. Prior to the project, the kitchen was closed off from the rest of the house, a typical condition for houses constructed in the are during the 1920's. To make the 8x13 galley seem larger, a new pass-through window was cut into the dining room to allow the homeowner to connect with guests while prepping food.

AFTER PHOTO: A new pass-through opening is constructed into the dining room, which expands the kitchen volume beyond its wall. New maple cabinets and concrete countertops complete the look. Moving the fridge to the back wall next to the basement door adds space and functionality to the kitchen.

AFTER PHOTO: Removing the hood, adding an over-the-range microwave with integral ventilation and moving the range to the center of the cabinets provides workspace on either side and helps the kitchen feel more functional.

AFTER PHOTO: The new opening into the dining room provides more natural daylight and makes the kitchen feel much larger than it is. Hidden in the walls to either side are the ductwork lines and main sanitary stack.
