Lake Samish Home and Garden
A complete garden remodel accompanied the construction of this brand new home built within the footprint of the original, poorly built cottage on the property. Strict lake shoreline regulations required primarily native mitigation plantings, and no additional impervious surfaces. All paving and decking allows for stormwater to percolate through infiltrating into the native soils. Designed for a busy family, the layout allows for safe navigation to and from the residence and lake on the steep lot. Modifying existing grades within the garden was not allowed.
The plant palette was chosen for ease of maintenance, low water needs, vibrant color and form, with a beach feel (bunch grasses, rugosa roses, cone flowers) and to provide beneficial habitat for birds, insects, amphibians and fish.
