Lakeshore Vintage Co-op

This 4500SF gut rehab in a 1926 vintage co-op on Lake Shore Drive was designed for a husband and wife who spent time living abroad but wanted a home base in Chicago. When they purchased the condo it was overrun with medieval architectural elements with heavy beams, plaster and lathe walls, coat of arms etc. (very Don Quixote-esque) The penthouse boasts double high ceilings, spectacular lake views and an incredible amount of natural light. During construction the original inlaid marble foyer and vaulted ceilings were meticulously restored. As with any gut rehab in older buildings you never know what you’ll find behind the walls – all the electrical wiring and plumbing pipes needed to be completely redone. The result is a beautiful, airy home with refined modern English influences.
