The couple that owns this house asked FDA to study ways to reinvent the house for them and their family while retaining the original character of the home. The house is in an historic district and utilizes a property tax freeze by having the design meet the guidelines of the Illinois Property Tax Assessment Freeze Program. The first floor was opened dramatically linking the rooms axially to the light/view of the beautifully landscaped yard. The second floor addition creates a master bedroom/bathroom suite and a roof deck accessed from the master bedroom. Other parts of the house are reconfigured creating a much more functional home for this young family while maximizing the flow of the space and of light throughout the house.
