Lingling Lu
Linling Lu is best known for herhard-edge, circularabstract paintingswith concentric rings of color.Her human-scaletondoshave been described as inducing states of meditation. Linling Lu: Musical Meditations, a solo show(Feb19-June 5,2022)opened at Kalamazoo Institute of Arts,the area's premier destination for fine art, contains a series of paintings created from 2019 to the present, many of which were composed during the two-year period of the ongoing pandemic. Lu views these works as a means of “healing from the chaos and uncertainty of life.” Lu’s large, circular canvases pulsate with color and invite viewers to reflect on their own memories and connections with music.Lu’swork was included in public and private collections nationally and internationallysuch asMicrosoftArt Collection, Capital One headquarters,CityCenter DC, Hall Arts Hotel, and the permanent collection of Embassy of The United States of America in Beijingamong a group of artists include Cai Guo-Qiang, Maya Lin, Betty Woodman, Xu Bing, Jeff Koons and Fred Tomaselli. Linling Lu earned a BFA in painting from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2008 and aMFA from theHoffberger School of Painting, MICA in 2011with honor. The artist currently lives and works in Baltimore, Maryland.
