Living Shoreline
This waterfront property on Long Island Sound was impacted by hurricanes Irene and Sandy, with erosion threatening the dune that protects its salt marsh. The homeowners choose to explore options to protect the dune, AGLD designed and installed a series of sill walls to create a living shoreline. Additionally the house was elevated to meet the new building codes, and the adjacent landscape was redesigned to respond to this change, incorporating a native coastal meadow on both sides of the cottage. The slightly wild look of the landscape allows it to blend with the naturalized areas throughout site.
