Macapa:"Flying Wing" historic renovation

Nicknamed "the flying wing" by its original architect, Harry Gesner, this house was initially inspired by a bird's form at the request of its original client, Mike Hynes, president of Cooper Lumber. Our task was to transform this iconic structure for the 21st century, saving it from demolition. We reimagined the house by freeing the roof from heavy walls, expanding exterior walls under the existing roofline, and redesigning the space to maximize 270-degree views. We also added a new, curved pool to enhance the landscape and tripled the yard size. The result is a modern architectural beacon that honors its stunning site and legacy.
