Master Suite Conversion

The master suite took an early-1990s master bedroom and bath and updated them to better reflect how the owners used their space. The result was a smaller bedroom with a softly lit cove ceiling, "his" and a "hers" separate dressing rooms, and a large master bath with a large custom steam shower, twin sinks and custom cabinetry.
The master bedroom was reduced in size to allow for a "hers" dressing room. The "his" dressing room was given its own space adjacent to the separate master bath. Each room received custom built in cherry cabinetry.

The custom cabinetry has dedicated shoe drawers, seeded glass in the cabinetry and multiple hanging heights for rods. The "his" dressing room was given its own space adjacent to the separate master bath. Each room received custom built in cherry cabinetry.

"Her" dressing room included built-in custom cherry cabinetry with drawers dedicated for ease in dressing, including this jewelry drawer. You can see the cabinetry is at different depths to allow different functions.

The full-height custom cabinetry in "her" dressing room allows for different clothes storage: different hanging heights, roll-out drawers for shoes, and tall shelves for extra bedding. Natural light makes it a cheery place to prepare for the day.

The custom shower includes two seat benches, allowing for two people to enjoy a steam shower. The glass panels and door allow for plentiful natural light in this master shower. Custom installation of the tile kept it interesting while using the same material throughout.

Needing to fit an unusually-shaped wall, the custom vanity was built to best use angles in the master bath. Twin sinks and dedicated medicine cabinets allow both husband and wife to get ready at the same time. The custom tile backsplash wraps to become part of the shower.

A custom cherry vanity at the end of the "hers" dressing room provides a tidy place for scents, accessories and daily primping. Well-lit and supplying a large mirror, the nook is also topped with stone that matches the master bath.

The master walk-in closet was too small and cramped for both husband and wife to share. In addition, there wasn't enough room to get dressed in or move around. Inadequate lighting made it a difficult place to search for the clothes and accessories that were scrunched in the closet....somewhere.

Needing a cosmetic re-do, the owners decided to completely rework the bathroom to allow for better storage, two sinks, and a large shower without a tub.
