Mid-Century Pool

The inspiration for this design was the clients love of warmer places and my roots as an LA native with a vacation home in Palm Springs. A vacation at home was the motto. From the expansive Gunite saltwater footprint (40 x20 with a swim jet bump out and sun shelf) to the twin fire pits with fountains, one is surrounded by site and sound as well as earth elements.
We chose easy to care for and even easier under foot Techo-Bloc Aberdeen pavers and Graphix wall. They mimic the look of bluestone, but without the heat retention. We trimmed out the upper deck and lower with a series of black cobblestone and Mexican beach pebble, respectively, to further accentuate the angular shape of the pool.
Serious grade issues and water led us to create a retaining wall and elevate the pool so that the homeowner could see the beauty from her living room window. The perimeter below with the Mexican beach stone serves as an independent recirculating trough for the waterfall as well as a system of French drains to pull water off the property into retention beds.
Easy to care for Zuri composite decking in a contrasting banding (for safety in step downs as well as beauty) combine with a cable railing system to allow the homeowner to see through to guests below and at pool level.
Covering the elevated deck as well as storage was very important so we dropped a portion of the deck to create an intimate space for dining and created a custom horizontal lattice system to hide to storage from within. Custom rope lighting from within accentuates the 3D nature of the design.
An independent waterfall system using 24" copper scuppers cascades sheets of water "through" the retaining wall creating a relaxing and soothing sound.
Vibrant oranges and cobalt colors peek through the sea of neutrals punctuating the serene visual landscape.
