Midwest Manor

One of the most iconic homes in Chicagoland! Originally built by the “Big Hurt”, White Sox Slugger Frank Thomas, this contemporary mansion was completely re-envisioned for modern family life by our wonderful repeat clients. The whole house renovation, which was completed in just over a year, included a new roof, all new windows, an entirely new kitchen (complete with La Cornue Range), a re-imagined second floor as well as all new interiors, lighting, furniture and window treatments.

The overall concept for the home was to stay true to the contemporary nature of the house’s architecture while notching up the sophistication and adding a touch of glam and wow factor to the interiors. With that in mind, a palette of black, white and gold was chosen and those colors run throughout the fabrics, wall colors, window treatments and artwork. This is a house with no shortage of bling – a full sized indoor basketball court, 2 outdoor pools, an 8 car garage and health club sized gym – but it also needed to reflect the warmth and hospitality gift of the owners. To that end, textiles were selected with great care. The Baker sofas in the great room are draped in black velvet and sit on an all silk rug. The occasional chairs – also Baker – are finished in a warm satin brass. This 2 ½ story room – complete with incredible lighting and window treatments – was inspired by the lobby of the Ritz Carlton Chicago and is truly the showpiece of the house.

In the foyer, 4 Currey torchieres provide both illumination and a touch of whimsy. They sit adjacent to statement Baker benches and in front of a double stainless steel staircase with Rosecore stair runners – two of seven staircases that are all finished off with incredible runners. The breakfast room, with glass Baker double pedestal table and Ace “T” chairs, picks up on the glass pocket doors that close off the showpiece black and white kitchen. A sitting area of 4 swivel chairs is adjacent to this space... a perfect spot for morning coffee or tea.

Other details of note... the 2 hall runners connecting the main first floor spaces, the main dining room which seats 18, the lower level dining room which seats 30, the spa room, the home theater…the list of amenities and details is almost too great to list. From inception to completion this project took nearly 18 months, but in the end a large space was made livable and a showpiece to modern design and hospitality was created. In the process, repeat clients became family and this home played host to two of the largest and most incredible receptions of the year!

Toms Price Home was involved in this project from inception to completion... right down to hanging all of the artwork and selecting all of the accessories!
