Modern style grew out of Art Deco in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and really became popularized in the 1950s and 1960s. For this reason, it’s also referred to as “Mid-Century.”

Modern design relies on form — geometric shapes, straight lines or perfect circles and ovals. The Modern form eschews the ornate and elaborately patterned and instead relies on bold statements for impact, such as pops of color.

Painted wood and plastic are common in this style, but designers often soften the overall feel with natural fabrics or accents.
