Modern Hilltop
This rural hilltop home offers outstanding views of the water and islands that lie beyond. The home has retained bold architectural lines throughout several additions, all of which were intended to create more living space adjacent to the top of the back slope on this design/build project. This left a minimal ground plane on which to link these living areas together, as well as provide a central gathering space to take in the spectacular views.
The linear nature of the home is echoed throughout the lines of the garden. A central walkway of premium concrete unit pavers links the garden spaces together. Several sitting terraces are accessed from this walkway, including a deck that leads out to the garden from two separate rooms in the home. The focal gathering area is a Fire Pit Terrace, perched beyond the crest of the hill in order to take in the commanding 180-degree views of the water. Angular limestone boulders provide definition and separation from the natural growth along the slope. The planting beds of natural grasses shrubs and perennials provide a transition from the manicured lawns to the natural slope side growth.
The featured Fire Pit Terrace is perched beyond the crest of the slope through the limestone boulder retaining walls. The wood burning fire pit is raised, and creates a comfortable space for a small group to enjoy the spectacular views.
Landscape Lighting provides safe access throughout the garden without impacting the views beyond the garden.
The Gardens and Sitting Terraces flow naturally from this home through the garden, and provide an outstanding experience and link to this natural setting.
