Moraga Mediterranean

From Manhattan Mini to Moraga Mediterranean

Manhattan has its charms—and challenges, namely crowds, noise, and close quarters. So when a TV producer and his family of four decided to leave the Big Apple and “Go West,” they traded their Manhattan mini for a Moraga house with a Mediterranean home interior design direction for some peace, quiet, and plenty of breathing room.

They say nature abhors a vacuum. The newly purchased house was larger than anything the family had ever experienced and needed a comprehensive, room-by-room interior design approach. Fortunately, the new owners had a solid idea of how they would create a home from a blank slate, with an elegantly casual, yet kid friendly, California ethos—while maintaining the home’s Mediterranean heritage.

In the living and dining rooms, the neutral pallet is cooled with soft shades of blues in silky textures, and grounded in natural fiber rugs. Dramatic mirrors echo the geometric patterns of custom window treatment, and wrought iron candelabras. An elegant dining room accommodates up to 10 easily for relaxed conversation over delicious meals.

The family room evolved as a cozy, intimate space with custom sectionals surrounding an installed gas fireplace. Custom built ins house the large screen television and deemphasize its presence in the room.
