Family-Owned Brasserie, with a Loyal Following, Gets a Restaurant Makeover
Repeatedly nominated as one of Oakland's best eateries, and renown for their great food and warm, gracious service, Wood Tavern owners, Rich and Rebekah Wood (who happens to also be my sister), have been serving up delicious, local bounty to an appreciative audience for over eight years. Located in the bustling Upper Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland, Wood Tavern garnered near-immediate accolades when they opened their doors in 2007. However, after close to a decade of constant service, the cozy, family-owned brasserie was showing signs of wear. It was time for a restaurant makeover.
We did the initial interior design for Wood Tavern, so this time around we just needed to freshen up the paint and refinish the worn, Hickory flooring. These updates elevated and enhanced the rustic feel of the room. Outdated and dinged-up seating was replaced with comfortable, Shaker-inspired, stained oak high back chairs. The new seating lends the space an upscale vibe while providing more intimacy while dining.
For the cooks, freshly cut marble slabs replaced worn and cracked concrete countertops surrounding the semi-open kitchen. Maximizing all surfaces, diners can pull up a stool and eat the "Chef's" table for an "up close and personal" experience with the people preparing their food. Bon apetit!
